Winters Tail by Beverley Gill

Each and every gone to sleep Catched up tight in warmth and trust Into beds and burrows deep With winter's cold we simply must. Safely slowed, a temporary shut down Gathering strength and rest Snoozing merrily dawn to dusk We simply must. Nuts are hoarded in our kitchens Nested beds freshly made When the snowdrops raise their heads Our doors re-open to sunny glaze. Now though,  we love and share and mingle Eating and laughing candle bright Being safe amongst Christmas jingle Right through the darkest nights. With this yearly end, As this season slumbers So do we, into its rhythm Putting on our thick  jumpers. Until the snowdrop bells awaken Eyes brightening, a new morn has broken.
